Support — Haven for iOS

Haven for iOS is a client for Haven servers. It is not itself a chat service: it connects to whichever server you tell it to.

Getting help

Email haven-ios@thedonutshoppe.com. It helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, the app version (Settings, under About) and what you were doing when it went wrong.

Reporting something you saw in a chat

Press and hold the message and choose Report. That opens an email with the server, channel, sender and message already filled in. Reports are reviewed and acted on within 24 hours.

Note that content on a Haven server is under the control of whoever runs that server. Where the content is not on a server the developer runs, the report is passed to that server's administrator, who is the person able to remove it or suspend the account responsible.

Blocking someone

Press and hold any of their messages and choose Block. Their messages disappear from your view straight away. Settings, under Blocked People, lists everyone you have blocked and lets you undo it.

Common problems

"Couldn't reach the server." Check the address, including https://, and that the server is running. Servers on a private network or VPN are only reachable when your phone is on that network too.

A warning about the certificate. Self-hosted servers often use a certificate your iPhone doesn't recognise. The app shows you its fingerprint once and remembers your answer. If the fingerprint later changes, the app refuses to connect, because that can mean someone is intercepting the connection — check with your server's administrator before trusting it again.

Two-factor codes rejected. Your phone's clock and the server's must agree. Turn on Set Automatically under Settings, General, Date & Time.

Deleting your account

Settings, then Delete Account. It requires your password and permanently erases your account from that server.

Source code

The app is open source under the AGPL with an app-store distribution exception.
